Helpful Advice

We have learnt a few things in 25 years.....

Packing

  • Always use small boxes for heavy or fragile items. A fragile item needs to be lightly compressed within a box using soft padding (newspaper/tissue/bubblewrap) as it is vital that the fragile item cannot move around within the box.
  • Use large boxes (or strong bin liners) for duvets/sheets/folded clothing etc. We will supply hanging wardrobe boxes for clothes on hangers and it is best to pack these on the day of the move as they can take up a lot of space.
  • Almost without exception, the kitchen will take the longest to pack so do not leave it until last!
  • To help reduce stress on the day, we advise you to make a list of things you will need to leave un-packed for the day of the move. Such items usually include cleaning materials as well as bowls, plates, cups and cutlery for breakfast/lunch/dinner.
  • Always get your packing completed before the move date as there will not be time on the day.

Moving

  • We will discuss access and parking arrangements with you during your quotation, but in general try to ensure there is a feasible parking position for our removal vehicle(s). If the vehicle(s) are to be parked on the road, we can provide you with cones to single out a parking bay.
  • We advise that you have younger children and pets looked after by a relative or friend on the day of the move.
  • If using a removal company other than Robins Removals, ensure you check their policy on charging for overtime. Often delays occur on the day which can significantly hold your move up, unfortunately you could be charged extra for this whether it is your fault or not!
  • Finally, mark any boxes containing your essentials and point them out to our removal staff so as they can keep them aside when unloading. You may not feel like unpacking at the end of the day as a move can be tiring, so it is convenient to know where your essentials are.
